Modern Thatched Cottage
A first floor extension to an early C20 thatched cottage near the south coast. The house had been very unsympathetically extended in the 1960s and the brief was not only to provide an additional bedroom but also to pull together and unify the building into a coherent whole.
The scheme includes a new gable as well as the hipped dormer all finished in new thatch. Roof is detailed in accordance with the Thatching Advisory Services and includes additional fire protection measures.
The new room on the first floor has a vaulted ceiling which creates a generous, airy space while conservation Velux windows set in the thatch add light and drama to the space below. The house provides luxurious modern comfort within a traditional seaside thatched cottage.
